I just read an interesting article on Genealogy Today called A Challenge to Abraham Lincoln’s Ancestry, which describes research done by R. Vincent Enlow into Lincoln’s lineage. Enlow asserts that there is enough evidence to challenge accepted notions that Lincoln was the son of Thomas Lincoln. This wasn’t a surprise to me; I have heard rumors for years that Honest Abe was the illegitimate son of an Enloe from Western North Carolina, rumors which Enlow attempts to corroborate. Lincoln’s officially sanctioned place of birth is in Kentucky, although the state of Illinois receives the largest share of fame surrounding Lincoln’s life.
