Upcoming Seminars and Conferences in the Southeast USA
The Georgia Genealogical Society will sponsor the seminar Sources and Methods for Irish Genealogical Research featuring guest speaker David E. Rencher on Saturday, March 7, 2009 in Savannah, GA from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The topics covered will be Irish jurisdictions and reference works, Irish church records, sources and methods for Irish genealogical research, and Irish genealogy collections. On Saturday, March 14, 2009, the North Carolina Genealogical Society, along with the Craven County Genealogical Society, will host the workshop Overcoming Brickwalls in New Bern, NC, featuring guest lecturer Craig Roberts Scott. Topics covered include finding your ancestors’ military records, researching female ancestors, locating land records, and researching on the Internet. The National Genealogical Society’s annual conference will be held in Raleigh, NC this year from May 13-16, 2009. This is a must-do event chock-full of wisdom from today’s leading genealogists, like Elizabeth Shown Mills and Helen F. M. Leary. A sampling of the topics scheduled includes female ancestry, the Revolutionary War, urban ancestors, research in several state archives, African American ancestry, and literally dozens of other interesting lectures.
