Original vs. Derivative Records
One of the most common mistakes beginning (and even more experienced) researchers make is in failing to follow up on derivative records by checking the original. Everyone’s made this mistake at one time or another, it’s true (including me), but it is also one of the most egregious errors a genealogist (or any other researcher, for that matter) can make.
